Algunos datos sobre HSH

La prevalencia de VIH y de ITS han presentado una disminución global a nivel mundial1,2, pero en hombres que tienen sexo con hombres (HSH) continua en aumento, tanto en entornos de bajos como de altos ingresos3.

Los HSH son un grupo de alto riesgo para el contagio de las infecciones de transmisión sexual incluyendo VIH/SIDA4. En Reino Unido se considera el grupo de mayor riesgo de contagio y se estima que 1 de cada 5 HSH VIH positivo no está diagnosticado5.

En China lo casos de contagio de VIH entre HSH aumentó de 2.5% en 2005 a 25.8% en 20146. Estudios demuestran que llegan a presentar sífilis hasta en un 23%7. En Estados Unidos el 86% de nuevos casos de sífilis son en HSH y en Reino Unido presentaron 25 veces más riesgo de contraer sífilis8.

En el año 2015 en Holanda los HSH presentaron el 68% de todos los casos de gonorrea, 90% del total de casos de HIV y 96% de todos los casos de sífilis diagnosticados en las clínicas de infecciones sexuales9,10. Datos de Perú indican que los pacientes HSH contagiados de sífilis han tenido en los últimos 6 meses una media de 28 parejas sexuales11.

La infección por HIV en HSH ha aumentado en la mayoría de los continentes, incluyendo Europa. Datos de 13 países del occidente europeo indican un aumento de casi el 100% de 1999 al 200612. Datos del 2015 indican que la proporción más alta de contagio de VIH en Europa se ha presentado en HSH, siendo de un 42%13 del total.

La incidencia de cancer anal es bajo entre la población general de hombres, pero aumenta considerablemente en HSH. El virus de papiloma humano se encuentra entre el 87 y 98% de todos los HSH que son positivos al VIH14.

Estudios científicos demuestran que un gran número de parejas sexuales a lo largo de la vida (más de 10) se asocia con la presencia de infección por VPH en pacientes HSH VIH positivos15.

Estudios científicos han demostrado que los HSH tienen en promedio 4 parejas sexuales en los últimos 3 meses16, que del 26 al 44% de los HSH tienen entre 11 y 50 parejas sexuales por año17,18 y del total de HSH que tienen relaciones sexuales el 58.4 lo hace con parejas casuales19.

Estudios en la India demuestran que el 25.1% de los HSH ha recibido dinero por tener relaciones sexuales20 en los últimos 3 meses a la entrevista. Otros estudios demuestran que gasta el 77% de los HSH han pagado por sexo21.
